The Alsace Route des Vins

24.08.13

Meandering over 180 km from Marlenheim to Thann, the picturesque wine route takes in historic towns with cobbled streets, medieval timber-framed houses, and Renaissance fountains.

Vineyards as far as the eye can see.

View from the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg.

Looming above the pretty village of St-Hippolyte, this castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg) is the most popular attraction in Alsace.

You've got to love a little blue house that seems to belong in a fairy tale.

Winstub

Romantically appointed winstubs, or cellars, offer traditional choucroute garnie and flowery white Alsatian wines.

I'd get my laundry done here just to enjoy the signage.

Ah, the fabrics!

More than just tablecloths in this store.

This is what I call saucy sausage...

Dedicated wine lovers could spend two or three days covering the route at leisure, or take shorter trips in either direction to or from Colmar.  We particularly enjoyed the towns of St-Hyppolyte, Ribeauvillé, Bergsheim, and Eguisheim.
